Devika Sihag of 12 A1 (world ranking 578 in doubles and 1178 in Singles) participated in the Croatian Open Badminton Championship and reached quarter
Haryana Badminton Association, awards 80,000 cash in recognition of her contribution to Sports
Devika is a top-ranking badminton player in the country in her age group with an impressive track record. She is ranked No.2 in Girls’ Doubles and No.6 in Girls’ Singles as per the rankings released last year by the Badminton Federation of India. She also won Gold in Sub-Junior Doubles (U-17) and a Bronze in U15 singles in the Nationals and a bronze as part of the U19 team. Devika also won the Silver Medal in the U15 Girls Doubles in the All India Sub Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament in Gulbarga. This July, she also won a cash reward of Rs. 200,000 from the Sports Department, Government of Haryana.
This recognition comes after years of hard work and practice for the young champion. Starting as a player representing Panchkula District, Devika moved up the ranks to represent Haryana State and now plays at the National Level. She has also been recognised for her achievements as part of the Khelo India Programme by the Government of India. Currently training under the aegis of the renowned Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, Bengaluru, Devika has been pursuing the sport resolutely from her early years. With unswerving support from her school (Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh) and immense encouragement from her parents, Devika has been able to deftly balance badminton and her education.
